Colin Hailey

Colin is the founder and managing partner of Confluence Tax. He specialises in venture capital schemes, R&D tax credits, patent box, share incentives and M&A transactions within biotech and tech. He chairs the Finance and Tax Advisory Committee of the UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) and undertakes consultation work with HM Treasury and HMRC. Colin is a regular speaker and contributor on tax issues relevant to the knowledge economy.

Emma Dahm

Emma is partner at Confluence Tax with a focus on business development and marketing. She has a background in science journalism and content strategy and joined Confluence Tax in 2016. She splits her time between external marketing activities and running the non-client facing aspects of the firm. Emma has a BSc(Hons) in life sciences and foundation certificate in veterinary science.

Christopher Evans

Chris joined Confluence Tax in 2018 and as tax manager has a focus on business tax, including corporation tax, EIS and EMI. He has completed Level 3 AAT and has previously worked as a financial controller and operations manager in the restaurant trade, following a spell in retail banking. Chris graduated in 2008 with a BSc(Hons) in life sciences.

Zan Li

Zan joined Confluence Tax in 2018, after graduating with a MSc in finance and real estate and BSc (Hons) in accounting and finance. Zan is a member of the management team, with responsibility for corporation tax computations and EMI valuations. She is currently studying towards her ACCA qualification.

Zan is currently on maternity leave



Amanda Steele

Amanda heads up the personal tax side of the business, also working on PAYE, accounts and corporation tax. She graduated from the University of the West of Scotland in 1997 with a BA (Hons) in accountancy. Amanda trained with PwC before running her own tax and accounting business for 10 years. She is a member of AAT and is studying towards her CTA qualification.

Asma Aslam

Asma is tax team manager and looks after the junior team members. She joined Confluence Tax after a period as an R&D tax and grants consultant and she spent 10 years as a biomedical research scientist. Asma continues to focus on R&D tax credit claims and coach the team on the technical aspects of this relief.

Gill Turner

Gill re-joined Confluence Tax in April as a technical advisor. She has more than 20 years’ experience in corporate tax, predominantly from roles in the Big 4 – as well as a few years at Confluence. She specialises in international taxation as well as the UK patent box, R&D tax credits and corporate reorganisations. Gill provides technical support to the team on all tax matters as well as working with clients on complex issues and transactions.

Emily Smith

Emily joined Confluence Tax after working for several years in accounts in the telecoms tech industry. Emily is assistant tax manager, working with the tax team mainly on corporation tax and employment tax matters. She is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, after completing her AAT Level 4 qualification in 2019.

Sadaf Shaheen

Sadaf joined Confluence Tax in March on a part-time basis as assistant tax manager. She has more than 10 years' experience in accounts, corporation tax and personal tax. Sadaf is a member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Within the team she is responsible for corporation tax computations, R&D claims and personal tax returns.

Samantha Churchman

In March this year Sam joined the team on a part-time basis as a tax associate. She graduated from the University of Keele in 2014 with a BA(Hons) in Accountancy and Criminology. She is part-qualified ACA after working and training in small practice accountancy firms since 2014.




Joshua Worth

Joshua is the team administrator for Confluence Tax, on a part-time basis, and joined in July 2020. With a background in administration, he assists the team with a huge array of tasks to ensure the smooth running of the office on a day-to-day basis. From formatting presentations to archiving essential documents, Joshua keeps the tax team on track.

Harriet Barber

Harriet is the newest member of our team, she joined Confluence Tax as a tax associate in June 2021. In her role she supports the team with a variety of tasks including preparing EMI valuations and tax computations for corporate clients. Harriet graduated from the University of Law in 2016 with a LLB (Hons) in Law and is currently working towards her AAT Level 2 qualification.


Connie Langley

Connie joined Confluence Tax as a tax associate, after working in various accounting practices. She has five years of experience in accounts, corporation tax and personal tax, and she is currently working towards her AAT Level 4 qualification. Connie supports the team with a broad range of tasks for both corporate and personal tax clients.
